Florian Arbenz You wanna hear something completely different? Here you go! This recording is a really happening fusion of modal Jazz and cuban folklore.

Of course you have to kind of like the sound of cuban Bata and the songs, but if you're open minded you're in the right spot!

I used to hang with these guys in Havana in the 90s and I can assure you that it's the real deal.

The jazz musicians around Mark Alban Lotz are really great - they go for the Cuban-European trance. Favorite track: Blues For Yemayá.

about

The second release of Mark Alban Lotz Yoruba Trilogy with interpretations of religious folklore music from the Afro Cuban Santería tradition. This recordings are about European readings of ancient songs and dances the Cubans use to worship their West African ancestors and gods with soloists from Conjunto Folklorico de National de Cuba, Yoruba Anabo, Raices. Features conga-legend Miguel 'Anga' Diaz and documents the latest recordings of legendary vocalist/percussionist Amelia Pedroso.

The CDs by Mark Alban Lotz are the best examples I’ve heard of successfully blending bata drums with non-Latin music. I highly recommend them.” (Batadrums.com, USA)

“The concept sounds as natural as birdsong.” (Pan, UK)

“Without a doubt the best dutch production of traditional Afro Cuban music ever.” (Big Band, The Netherlands)
